Yes, you heard right. Not only does Mobilize give you a full-time, paying job for your adventure across Canada – we pick up the tab for your housing, too.
It’s one of the biggest perks of this youth employment program. A furnished place to live (with your podmates) in each work location, arranged by the folks at Mobilize. All you have to do is arrive and unpack.
And here’s the bonus: not having to pay rent means you’re actually earning a lot more per hour than you think. Look at it this way. If you had to pay for your own place, you’d be looking at anywhere from $400 to $1,000+ a month, depending on where you are. With Mobilize, that’s money you don’t have to spend, which means more in your pocket every month.
As the Operations Manager at Mobilize, I see that a lot of our workers (aka: Mobilizers) come into this youth employment program after living at home with their parents. They don’t realize how big a bite housing can actually take out of their earnings. That’s why we’ve built it in; it’s a way to add to their income and make it easier to transition to a new place.
The average cost of renting across the country
To give you an idea of how big a perk this is, take a look at the average costs of renting a one-bedroom apartment PER MONTH across Canada:
- Abbotsford, BC – $699
- Kelowna, BC – $802
- Calgary, AB – $1,137
- Edmonton, AB – $1,004
- London, ON – $788
- Windsor, ON – $676
- Toronto, ON – $1,085
- Barrie, ON – $984

These are pretty intimidating numbers, aren’t they? The housing cost challenge is amplified even further in locations where most of our Mobilizers crave jobs, such as in the beautiful Rocky mountains or in resort towns. Both types of locations usually equate to a double whammy, being cost prohibitive as well as difficult to find and secure given their remoteness and limited developed buildings.
No house-hunting headaches
You’re heading to your job from another part of the country. Can you imagine what a hassle it would be to try to find a place from far away? Or juggling apartment-hunting in your next location while meeting the demands of a full-time job? Mobilize eliminates those headaches. You don’t have to search online, visit places, sign contracts, worry about deposits or move in furniture. It’s already done.
Just pick up your key and move in
You and your podmates will be sharing a place in university-style housing. You’ll get a shared kitchen, common area, bedroom and storage space. Pots and pans, dishes and bed linens are usually included. If you have friends who are interested in this youth employment program, let us know! We’re happy to arrange things so you can all live together during your work/travel adventure with Mobilize.
Pack for winter and summer
Leave the housing, furniture and dishes to us – all you have to pack are your clothes. And here’s a quick tip from seasoned Mobilizers: minimize. Instead of hauling all your gear with you from place to place, pack two bags: one for cold weather and one for warm. Leave the one you don’t need at home; your family can send it later and you can send back the bag you don’t need anymore.
What’s Mobilize? Youth employment with an interesting twist
Mobilize is a unique youth employment program that pairs Canadian millennials with cool jobs across the country. Mobilizers rotate through seasonal placements in different locations that need staff.
