Toronto, Ontario (January 13, 2016) – After a successful initial year in the field, Mobilize Jobs has proven that tapping underemployed Canadian millennials is a viable alternative to using the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP) to fill seasonal labour shortages. We’ve learned a lot in our first year, with plenty of valuable feedback from participating businesses and workers. As a result, we are making a few changes to provide more flexibility for both employers and millennials on work adventures.

Program changes starting in 2016 include:

• Moving to two seasonal deployments a year
• Flexibility for employers to sign up for just one session (e.g. to address their busy season)
• No need to commit to a full-year term for workers

Instead of three four-month deployments a year, the program is moving to two seasonal deployments for summer and winter. Businesses can now use Mobilize workers when they need them most, e.g. increasing summer staff at a holiday resort or winter staff at a ski operation. They can ramp up or down according to their seasonal requirements, or just sign up for the season.

Do you need to recruit for the summer? Right now is the perfect time to sign up and secure eager-to-work Mobilizers for the upcoming season.

“We urge businesses to sign up as soon as possible to ensure they have enough staff for their busy season,” says Benjamin Guth, Mobilize Program Manager. “Mobilize deploys workers on a first come, first served basis, and demand is high.”

For millennials seeking work, the updates to the program structure means greater flexibility. They can join up for a full year or choose to complete the program after one deployment.

“They can have a summer of adventure and experience the beauty of winter in some of the most beautiful destinations in the world, or they can just commit to a single season,” says Guth.In the first year, Mobilize successfully deployed 160+ young Canadian to jobs in 13 locations in Alberta and British Columbia over three successful deployments. More than 20 properties have participated in the program to date.

Plus, Mobilize has recently expanded to resort areas in Manitoba and Ontario.

“A few lucky Mobilizers are having the adventure of their lives, having worked in two to three different provinces during their time in the program,” says Guth. “From summer work in Alberta’s incredible Rockies to winter employment in Canada’s amazing ski destinations, they’ve had the chance to experience the country in a way that few of us get to do – and they’ve earned money and built skills while exploring.”
